01
Intent
I designed this portfolio as a product in its own right, not just a résumé online. The idea was to build something clear, personal, and enjoyable to explore, then handle every step myself: design, development, testing, and shipping.
02
Editorial design and identity
The visual direction stays sober: a cream, black, and acid-sage palette, settled typography, a clear reading rhythm. I paid close attention to the details, aiming for an enjoyable experience rather than a pile of effects.
03
Karl, in several forms
The same identity can take many forms. In computing, a single piece of information can be represented in different ways. The work of a computer engineer is just as varied: software, embedded systems, data, artificial intelligence, design, and the creation of digital experiences. These fields often intersect and complement one another. I enjoy exploring those connections, understanding how things work together, and building projects from start to finish.
That’s why my first name keeps changing form at the top of the site: a person is never defined by just one facet. And if you head back to the homepage, take a moment to watch my name cycle through its different forms. There might be a little surprise waiting.
04
Quality and testing
Playwright checks that the site works across different paths, languages, and screen sizes, before any change is considered done.
05
Shipping
The karlgerard.fr domain name was bought through OVHcloud, then its DNS was pointed at Vercel, which hosts and deploys the site. Audience is tracked with Vercel Analytics.
06
Search visibility
The work doesn’t stop at writing code: metadata, FR/EN versions, and a sitemap also make the site accessible, discoverable, and maintainable, tracked through Google Search Console.
